Rabat - Morocco, whose monarch HM King Mohammed VI chairs the Al Qods Committee, strongly denounces the authorisation, Tuesday, by the Israeli government to construct 900 new settlements in the occupied eastern part of Al Qods, a statement of the Foreign Ministry said.
The north African kingdom recalls the illegal and illegitimate nature of any Israeli settlement or construction in the West Bank, of which eastern Al Qods cannot, under any pretext, be excluded, the statement said.
It stressed that Morocco "considers that this new authorisation for the construction of settlements further evidences the lack of any genuine Israeli will to resume, in an effective manner, the peace negotiations on the sound, pre-established bases that aim, in accordance with the will of the international community, at creating a sovereign and independent Palestinian State that is viable at all levels, with Al Qods Asharif as its capital."
The statement notes that "the Kingdom of Morocco strongly rejects the Israeli policy to forcibly distort the Arab characteristic of annexed eastern Al Qods."
The north African country thus “calls on the international Quartet, mainly the American administration, to shoulder their responsibility towards the Israeli authorities, which should respect their obligations clearly established in this regard, and refrain from the fait accompli,” the statement concluded.
