Cairo - The Council of the Arab League highlighted efforts made by Bayt Mal Al Quds Acharif Agency, an offshoot of the Al Quds Committee chaired by HM king Mohammed VI to preserve and protect the Al Aqsa Mosque from the Israeli threats.
The council, which ended on Thursday its 132nd session at the level of Foreign Ministers, praised the operations supervised by the Agency concerning the restoration of historical monuments in the holy city and those surrounding the Al Aqsa mosque, as well as the financing of projects in housing, health, culture, social affairs, youth and sports.
It also called on the Al Quds committee to pursue these efforts to face the Israeli plans that aim at judaising the first Qibla and the third holiest site of Islam.
The Al Quds committee is called to contribute to the organization of an Arab congress to back the struggle of the Al Quds population. This meeting will be initiated by the Arab League in coordination with the Organization of the Islamic Conference as part of festivities celebrating the Al Quds as capital of Arab culture in 2009.
The council urged the international community, the UN Security Council, and the UNESCO to shoulder their responsibility for protecting the sacred places and stopping the Israeli aggression perpetrated against the Al Quds population and the Palestinian territories.
Created at the initiative of late King Hassan II, Bayt Mal Quds Acharif Agency aims at mobilizing the necessary material and financial resources to defend the inalienable rights of the Palestinians in the Al Quds Al Charif city as the capital of the Palestinian state and safeguard its civilizational, religious, cultural and architectural heritage.
