Rabat, Feb. 13/2007 - Bayt Mal Al Qods Al Sharif Agency, offshoot of AL-Qods committee chaired by King Mohammed VI, expressed its eagerness to fund the restoration works of the passage linking the Al Aqsa Mosque to the Magharba Gate, under the supervision of the Islamic Waqf department, said a press release of the Agency.
The initiative as the Higher Islamic Council and the Waqf Council in Al-Aqsa suggested revamping the passage of Magharba Gate in order to safeguard the Islamic and civilizational identity of the city.
On Monday, Israel denied having stopped or suspended the construction works of the passage as reported earlier by an Israeli daily.
"Excavation works were neither stopped nor suspended beneath the Mosque," spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told the press, adding that "works are going to continue."
Israel had started excavation works on February 6 amid strong indignation in the Muslim world.
Last week, king Mohammed VI condemned the works made around the Al Aqsa Mosque and called on the Israeli government to order the "immediate halt" of these works in order to help attenuate the high tension in the Palestinian territories.
