Rabat - Morocco on Wednesday denounced in the strongest terms Israel's approval of building 1600 new housing units in the Eastern part of Al Quds, urging it to immediately give up this decision.
"The Kingdom, whose sovereign HM King Mohammed VI chairs the Al-Quds Committee, strongly condemns this colonisation project which runs counter to the international legality and is in blatant violation of the UN resolutions on the obligation not to alter the situation and the nature of the Palestinian territories, including the Eastern part of Al Quds," the foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement added that this dangerous decision confirms the current Israeli government's strategy to isolate the eastern part of Al Quds from the other territories of the West Bank, and reflects its unacceptable attempts to dissociate the issue of Al Quds from the final-status negotiations "in a time when the Arab World has expressed its readiness to support the holding of US-sponsored indirect negotiations.
Morocco, which takes note of the international condemnation of this decision, especially by the UN Secretary-General and the US vice-president during his visit to the region, insists on the need to immediately relinquish this colonisation project and to endeavour to support efforts aimed at favouring negotiations over the logic of force and the fait accompli, the statement concluded.
